“Eliza begun to realize that all she truly loved were her memories of him and perhaps that was the only thing she had, because everything else, which she thought she had known about him, could just as easily have been wrong. Her mind was so full of characters and fantasies that she could only love a fantasy. Disconnected from real life, lost in the void of her mind, she could only love the fantasy of herself with somebody. She loved thinking of the character she could create and how she would act, therefore the man in the background could be anybody, as long as she had the slightest interest in him.”
